Race Preview

After a one-year absence, the IZOD IndyCar Series returns to The Milwaukee Mile. The Milwaukee Mile continues to be one of America's premier, tradition-laden auto racing venues. Motorized racing events date back to 1903, a full eight years before the first Indianapolis 500, making The Mile the oldest, continually operating motor speedway in the country.

The track seats about 40,000 spectators. It operated as a dirt track until 1953. The track was paved in 1954.

The one-mile oval drives more like a road course because of the flat corners (9.25°), which produces exciting racing. Drivers can't go flat out on the course, which creates overtaking opportunities in the turns as well as the straights.
