James on the West Coast for the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma
Aug 27th 2011Without a doubt, the backdrop to Round 13 couldn't be more picture perfect. The gorgeous surroundings of the Napa Valley are breathtaking, and the Infineon Raceway is an interesting, almost European style track. The course allows for not only tight turns and straights, but offers the added dimension of elevation throughout. These types of tracks are obviously very challenging to drive, while delivering the ultimate in viewing excitement for spectators.
Dale Coyne rookie driver #18 James Jakes is no stranger to this track situation, despite this being his first race here at Infineon Raceway. The combination of turns and elevation are not unknown to James, with his years of experience driving the European courses that are similar in construction. However, as with all the races this 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series, each track is literally a new experience to James. Where testing days are available, James is there to gain vital track negotiating knowledge. This was the case late last week when a test day was scheduled. James reported back that "the track was great to drive, I'm really looking forward to the race weekend".
This year has proven an obvious challenge and learning opportunity for James. In his usual professional approach to each and every situation, he's embraced every race and looked to add to his experience.
