James Best Qualifying of Season : 8th in Indy Japan

Sep 17th 2011

Indy Japan at the Twin Ring Montegi is starting out to be James Jakes best weekend yet in this his rookie season in the IZOD Indycar Series. Every race weekend has been a learning experience for James, entering the series weeks before the first race, and have to learn each and every track as well as the car. Each race weekend James has been proving his potential and showing improvement as the season progresses.

Leading up to the qualifying on Saturday afternoon there were three practice sessions for the driver and teams on the unfamiliar street circuit at Montegi, all previous Indycar races have been held on the Oval track, 75 minutes on the Friday and two hour long stints on Saturday Morning. These sessions weren't without incident as the limits were found with off-track detours taken at some point by nearly half the field, but luckily none of them were serious or cause too much delay to the on-track activity.

James was set to qualify in Group 2 with some strong contenders including the top 4 in the overall standings; Dario Franchitti, Will Power, Scott Dixon, and Oriol Servia. James pulled an outstanding performance out of the bag, driving himself into 5th in the group, and his first time through into the fast 12 shootout.

James was first out of the pits for the 10 minute round two of the qualifying, and finished in eigth place above Dario.

James is obviously enjoying the European style Montegi circuit as he tweeted shortly after qualifying "Love the Motegi Road course here great place, the fans are amazing too".
