IZOD Indycar Series - Kentuck Indy 300

Kentucky Indy 300: The 16th and penultimate round of the IZOD Indycar Series takes place this weekend in Sparta, on the Kentucky Speedway - the excitement that surrounds Rookie Driver James Jakes builds. Although the Las Vegas Final is still to come, there's no denying that after "Jakesy's" continued, steady progression - all eyes are on him. His consistent, every improving performance, proves his decade of European experience behind the wheel of a variety of open wheel performance cars. This 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series has challenged James. However, he's demonstrating that he's taken in what he's learned and is applying it.

The track for Round 16 is Kentucky Speedway - 1.5-mile tri-oval with sweeping turns on a 14-degree banking with a 70 feet wide racing surface. The speedway has undergone a makeover since October 2010, adding seats, increasing the seating capacity to 106,000, along with additional camping spots and amenities. The lone difference to the actual racetrack is moving the pit lane closer to the main grandstand. Located in the rolling hills of Kentucky, Sparta is situated between Cincinnati and Louisville, home of the infamous Kentucky Derby. The geography is not too dissimilar from Mid Ohio. The track, of course, making the distinction.

Another oval for James who now says 'I like ovals, they're fun'. His performance on ovals has been on a steady incline. If Japan is anything to go by, we're in for an exciting race. James is positioning himself for a productive end of season.

The is a full Indycar weekend schedule planned with two hour long practice sessions, and qualifying on Saturday. On Sunday the race starts at 2pm for 200 laps and 300 miles of Indycar action. Both the qualifying and race will be aired on Versus.
