James has continued his strong start to the 2009/2010 GP2 Asia series by topping test session 3 at Paul Ricard, finishing 2nd in Test 4 and remaining in the top eight for the other two Tests.
Paul Ricard, one of the Official Testing facilities for Formula 1 is quite a unique place, offering a multitude of circuit set ups and also has the ability to provide wet weather running even when the sun is out.
James' next race event is once again at the now World Famous Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi in February.

James Jakes and the GP2 Asia series for 2009/2010 travelled to the Middle East and the country of Abu Dhabi for the season opening race at the newly built and finished Yas Marina.
The opening weekend proved to be on the whole a success for James who succeeded in turning his steady qualifying into a well deserved podium finish. The result helped James finish the weekend 6th in the championship and in good sted for the remaining races of the season are to be held in Bahrain and again at Yas Marina in just over a months time.
Race One Quotes from James

GP2 Series: James, congratulations on your podium. Strong start!
James Jakes: I just got a really good start. Even though with Leimer gone and Rodriguez stalled, it was a great start from seventh to second. I had to avoid Rodriguez and still ended up in third. I think my start would have been even better if he could have gone off the line and I could have gone straight. I always knew we would be quick in the race. With my start, I could go up to the front really quick. Qualifying has been the area where we struggled a little bit. We haven’t managed to get fully on with the tyres and to get the best possible use out and I knew in the race we would be pretty strong.

GP2 Series: You couldn’t hold off Filippi?
James: I passed Filippi at the hairpin as he made a mistake. At the second hairpin I made a mistake and braked too hard, damaging my tyres. I wasn’t sure about the braking in the next corner and that’s how he got passed me. From then on, I had flat-spotted tyres and it’s quite difficult to manage. The car was vibrating a lot.

GP2 Series: Why did you decide to pit before the pair in front of you?
James: Well, you know what? It didn’t work out really well. The safety car came out just when I put in a purple sector after I crossed the finish line on the outlap. It was looking good, but the safety car came out on that lap and I wasn’t able to maximise the potential of the tyres which could have jumped me to P2. After that it was the case of holding position, really. I got a few looks at Filippi. He had a really big battle with Valsecchi at one point. It was difficult for me on the braking because of the tyres.

The GP2 train rolled into Sakhir this week for round three of the GP2 Championships.
With a commanding lead in the championship, could anyone make a dent Romain Grosjean's title amibitions?

Well the answer is yes...

Team mate Vitaly Petrov took a win in the longer race 1 securing a valuable 11 points and then added further 4 points in race two with his second podium of the weekend in third place.

With Romain Grosjean failing to score in both race Petrov has now taken the lead by 2 points. Despite not scoring any point in either race Grosjean is still 13 points clear of third, this is strongly becoming a situation the Barwa Addax team are relishing, with both their drivers way out front.

In the second race, pre championship favourite Brazillian Lucas Di Grassi, (Fat Burner Racing Engineering) secured his first win of the year.

Jenson Button continued his great start to the season with his fifth win out of six races. The 10 points gained has further consolidated his grip on the championship so far. Rubens Barichello took a further second place to keep his title hopes alive although now being 16 points behind.

The twisting street circuit around the principality of Monaco like most years claimed a number of casualties. In qualifying Lewis Hamilton failed to get out of Q1 after spinning on his final flying lap and during in the race Sebastien Vettel, Heikki Kovalainen, Robert Kubica to name a few also failed to complete the 78 lap thriller.

The race weekend saw a return Formula One's biggest name, Ferrari finally got there slowest season for many years back on track with a third place for Kimi Raikkonen, closely followed over the line by Felipe Massa, the result stands the Scudieri in good stead going to a track where Massa has won the last four visits, Sakhir, Turkey.

By contrast to Ferrari's return to form, Toyota slipped dramatically back down the grid, after finishing the majority of the sessions at the bottom of the pile. Only during the race on different strategies to the rest, did the squad manage to be anywhere near the front runners, infact 1 Lap back was a great result based on the performance over the weekend.

On a final note, the question on everyone lips however, is Brawn GP ever going to stop winning?
