Description
Officially opened in September 1990 by Dublin resident Damon Hill and later redeveloped in 2001, Mondello Park is Ireland's only permanent racing circuit. The circuit has three track layouts and facilities now include the FIA spec Pit Garage and Hospitality Suite Complex, a motor sport museum and improved spectator facilities.
Mondello is a very quick technical circuit consisting of an undulating track and offering a variety of corner types consisting of: seven right-handers, including a tight hairpin, 180-degree and parabolica; and four left-handers with another hairpin and a set of rapid esses. The track length is 2.25mi/3.6km and Nigel Greensall holds the current lap record of 1 minute, 30.62 seconds, set in September 1998.
The circuit plays host to annual events for the British Touring Car Championships, British Superbikes and British GT championships. Motorcycle and car track days are run throughout the season on a variety of track layouts, enabling the general public to race their machines. The pit garages are also available for hire on these days.
The paddock grandstand is on the main straight infield over a bridge and access is generally free. Best viewing is at Dunlop Corner, just before the main straight on the outfield. The track has a bar and restaurant with improvements to facilities being made continually.
