James Jakes race 1 report Le Mans
10/10/2008James Jakes came away from Le Mans having salvaged a top five finish from a difficult weekend after two fighting drives in France.
After a tough qualifying session that left him scratching his head, James made steady progress in the first race of the weekend, and then came through a chaotic second race to get into the points.
Only half points were awarded due to a long red flag in the middle of the race, but James can at least add one more to his tally for this season thanks to the fifth-place finish.
"I haven't really enjoyed this weekend, but it's good to get something out of it considering how it started in qualifying," said James.
"In the first race, there was only so much I could do from starting that far back. In the end it was just too hard to pass any more people in the dry.
"But the second race was much better. We were a little bit stronger in the wet but not much, I just was able to get past people, and stay out of trouble at the same time.
"It's nice to get another point on the board, but when I look at how close the championship battle for second is, it's frustrating because if a couple of races had gone out way we'd be really close to that fight. That just sums up our year really."
