James Jakes Race 1 Report for the F3 Euro Series Round 7 - Brands Hatch
01/09/2008James Jakes was robbed of a fighting fifth place in Saturday's F3 Euro Series race at Brands Hatch after he was taken out by his team-mate in the closing stages.
James had fought hard to maintain his position throughout the 58-lap race, as his car had sustained slight damage after a first lap collision with Sam Bird.
He had closed up on those ahead of him after learning how to drive around his problems though, and was challenging former championship leader Edoardo Mortara for fourth when Jules Bianchi crashed into the side of him at Druids.
"It's really frustrating, because Jules is a good driver but he just didn't use his head," said James. "We all know how hard it is to overtake here, so I don't know what he was thinking.
"I had made a good start, it was a shame that we collided with Sam at the start, and after that it took me a few laps to get used to the car. Then I was just saving my tyres for later in the race, and we were looking really good towards the end.
"I was happy to be fifth, it would have put us in good shape for the second race, but now we're going to have a really hard time. Even if it rains tomorrow, I'm not sure what we can achieve."
