Formula Renault UK Championship-leader Mike Conway drove superbly well at Donington Park this afternoon to take an excellent victory in the second Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup race of the day at the Leicestershire Circuit - even though he only qualified in ninth position. Manor Motorsport's Paul Di Resta also enjoyed good success after finishing in third position, he qualified in 11th place, but in the opening race of the day the British drivers didn't have such good fortune. Di Resta was the best of the Brits in race one in sixth position while Conway was seventh, Team aka's James Jakes was eighth and Fortec's Stuart Hall was 14th. Manor's Patrick Hogan finished in 16th place while Fortec's Charles Hollings and Manor's Josh Weber were unclassified

A superb victory by Conway (Fortec Motorsport), after a faultless performance in front of his home crowd at Donington. A distant second was France?s Moreau (SG Formula), continuing his brilliant form this weekend, with Di Resta (Manor Motorsport) third after a magnificent showing from the drivers on the wet British track. No sooner had poleman Fleming led the field from the lights ahead of Kochem and Meijer than the gloves came off in the chasing pack. A perfect example being the duel between Conway and Pilet (Graff Racing), neither one giving an inch in their hard but fair fight! Straight away the pressure was on Fleming, who had Kochem breathing down his neck. The wet conditions made it very tricky for the drivers, with the race order changing on every lap. And as they came round for the third time, Fleming spun, allowing Kochem to move into the lead ahead of Claessens. Conway then lit the fuse, pushing past Claessens and Kochem in very quick succession and pulling away with fastest lap after fastest lap. Further back the battle was raging hard, as Pilet, Moreau and Aleshin swapped places constantly to put on an amazing show for the crowd. Back at the front, Conway was still lapping faster and faster, and by lap 14 had built up a gap of 14 seconds over Moreau, Di Resta, Kochem and Claessens. With Pilet following at a respectable distance, Meijer and Pagenaud were locked in battle with Speed, the American seemingly taking things steady in the rain. Further ahead the fight was intense, with Aleshin looking comfortable and constantly on the attack until his optimism got the better of him and he ran off the track. Meanwhile Moreau, Di Resta and Pilet had moved up past Kochem, the young German eventually losing a wheel defending his position on the inside at the chicane, putting paid to his race. At the chequered flag it was Conway, followed by Moreau and Di Resta. Further down the order came Speed, who nonetheless keeps his overall lead after a fantastic weekend?s racing at Donington.
